2026 Mazda 6e EV Launches in Europe to Compete with the Tesla Model 3

Mazda has unveiled the all-electric, rear-wheel drive 6e for Europe, set to be available for purchase in late 2025.

Tesla Model 3

The Tesla Model 3 competitor provides 68.8 and 80 kWh battery options, with a range of 300 to 345 miles.
Two power options are offered, with the most powerful variant delivering 255 hp and achieving a 0-62 mph time of 7.6 seconds.

Considering the purchase of a new Tesla Model 3? If you reside in Europe, it may be prudent to save your decision until the conclusion of this year, as Mazda's forthcoming electric 6e appears to merit your consideration.

The 6e, a European variant of the Chinese EZ-6 launched last year, is an aesthetically pleasing sedan with a liftback rear design that provides a functional benefit compared to the Model 3. The Mazda 6e, adhering to the Kodo design language, incorporates an LED-framed grille that displays a fluttering light to signify the battery status during charging.

The 6e features frameless door glass, a low roofline, and an active rear spoiler, contributing to its athletic aesthetic. Additionally, the rear-wheel drive chassis configuration suggests that the driving experience may fulfill this expectation.

The 6e is not particularly rapid in either of its offered configurations. Mazda will provide the electric vehicle with two battery options. The smallest 68.8 kWh unit provides up to 300 miles (483 km) of electric range, charges at 200 kW, and can increase its charge from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes, or add 145 miles (233 km) of range in 15 minutes. An enlarged 80 kWh battery extends the range to 345 miles (555 km) but requires 45 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent.

Select the smaller battery, and your 6e is equipped with 255 horsepower (258 PS), achieving a speed of 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 7.6 seconds. Selecting the larger package reduces the power to 241 hp (244 PS) and increases the 0-62 time by two-tenths of a second. Both appear to be modest performers compared to a Model 3, even the most basic variant of which accelerates to 62 mph in 5.8 seconds.

The cabin is more welcoming and less austere than that of a Model 3, while maintains a comparable emphasis on digital interfaces. A 10.2-inch display manages instrument functions in front of the driver, complemented by a head-up display, while the majority of vehicle operations are controlled by a central 14.6-inch touchscreen.

The 6e will be available for purchase in mainland Europe in the latter half of 2025, with sales in the UK commencing early the subsequent year.
