Yangwang U8 L raises the bar for luxury with its 1,180-horsepower SUV.

Yangwang U8 L raises the bar for luxury

The Yangwang U8 L, a luxury SUV from the Chinese manufacturer BYD, has been unveiled. It's a long-wheelbase SUV that can carry six people in three rows of seating, giving passengers the feeling of being on a private jet, but on land.

In a surprise move for luxury and performance enthusiasts, BYD has responded to the Chinese market's demand by launching the luxurious extended U8 L version of its Yangwang U8. Its wheelbase has been extended to 3,250 mm, an additional 200 mm over the standard model, allowing for a unique 2+2+2 seating arrangement that reflects the atmosphere of a private jet.

This is what Yang Wang's U8 L long-wheelbase car offers.

  • Exterior design that exudes luxury.
  • The U8 L version stands out with distinctive exterior features that enhance its presence on the road:
  • 24-karat gold badges on the front grille and rear emblem add a touch of elegance reminiscent of the luxurious British Rolls-Royce cars!
  • 23-inch forged wheels with floating center caps, wrapped in wide tires, increase the vehicle's stability and project a more aggressive character than ever.
  • The removal of the external spare wheel carrier and the elegantly redesigned rear bumper give the appearance a smoother, more luxurious feel, far removed from the rugged character of previous versions.

Interior with features inspired by private jets

With an extended wheelbase, the Yangwang U8 L now accommodates six seats in a 2+2+2 configuration, providing the middle and rear rows with a first-class cabin feel. Although BYD has yet to release official images of the luxurious car's interior, you can expect the finest leather, luxurious metal inlays, and advanced digital technologies to complement the ultimate luxury experience.

Mechanical specifications

There have been no changes to the basic powertrain, so the Yangwang U8 L remains based on four independent electric motors for the wheels, along with a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that acts as a range extender, producing 1,180 horsepower and 1,280 Nm of torque. Special capabilities such as a tank turn and the ability to float on water, thanks to independent motors for each wheel, enhance its position as the most luxurious and advanced SUV. The car takes less than 3.6 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h, with a top speed limited to 200 km/h, seamlessly combining speed and operational power.

 Prices and production dates.

BYD has announced that production of the Yangwang U8 L will begin in late 2025 at its Shanghai plant, with prices likely to start at 1.5 million yuan ($205,000), making it a relatively affordable deal for China's wealthy compared to similar luxury offerings from European brands. With this extended-range luxury edition, BYD raises the bar in the luxury SUV segment, demonstrating a strong ability to respond to market demands and deliver a combination of refined design, advanced technology, and stunning performance all under one roof. Stay tuned for the Yangwang U8 L's arrival in showrooms soon to discover for yourself how visions of future luxury have become a tangible reality on wheels.
