A hypercar re-envisioning of an American icon
GM's design team in the UK has recently hinted at a new version of the Chevrolet Corvette as an EV hypercar, showcasing graceful lines while paying homage to the Corvette's heritage. Drawing inspiration from the aviation sector, this concept vehicle is being introduced ahead of the current-generation Corvette's debut in the UK and across Europe. Although the existing Corvette is impressive, we would trade almost anything for this concept car.
This won't be the final Corvette concept we encounter. GM indicates that this concept is part of a "global design initiative" that will feature regular teasers throughout 2025. The automaker's design teams "frequently engage in conceptual design studies aimed at fostering ideation, innovation, and collaboration within the company." The design team's new facility in the UK, situated in Royal Leamington Spa (about 20 miles from Birmingham, England, to be exact), represents an investment GM is making in the area, intending to expand its Cadillac electric vehicle operations.

The Chevrolet Corvette concept we never knew we needed has arrived.
Michael Simcoe, the senior VP of global design at General Motors, tasked the UK team with envisioning what the Corvette could be if they began from scratch. This was part of GM’s global design initiative known as the Corvette creative study, in which different design teams from around the world presented their ideas. “It was essential for everyone to honor the Corvette’s historical DNA,” states Julian Thomson, head of the UK design team.
Incorporating a structural “spar” that extends the length of the vehicle and across the top, the design team paid tribute to the famous Stingray's split rear window at both the front and back of the car. Although this spar disrupts the front windshield, Simcoe notes that this spine enhances visibility where you would typically find A and B pillars in conventional vehicles.
